This Mandela Day, help us build more than just paddocks.
Help us build healing, dignity, and second chances for rescued horses at the Society for Animals in Distress.
Many of the horses in our care have survived neglect, abuse, abandonment, injury, or years of exhausting labour. Some arrive frightened and traumatised. Others arrive broken in body and spirit.
Recovery takes more than food and veterinary care.
It takes safe spaces to rehabilitate, move freely, socialise, and simply be horses again.
That is why we have launched The Mandela Day Paddock Project.
This Mandela Day, we are raising funds to build and improve equine paddocks — one pole at a time.
Paddocks are not “just fences.”
They:
🐴 Keep horses safe
🐴 Prevent injuries and fighting
🐴 Allow proper rehabilitation and recovery
🐴 Help manage feeding and medical needs
🐴 Create calmer, lower-stress environments
🐴 Give rescued horses freedom, security, and dignity
For many of our resident horses, these paddocks represent the first safe home they have ever known.
Each paddock pole costs just:
A simple number with a powerful meaning.
A full paddock requires:
Every single contribution helps us build safer, stronger spaces for vulnerable horses.
It is about creating lasting change through collective compassion.
This project is not only about fences and poles.
It is about creating safety for animals who have known hardship.
It is about restoring trust.
It is about building spaces where healing can happen.
One pole.
One act of compassion.
One better future.
